Photos from Bulgaria

The name of the country comes from the Bulgars, a semi-nomadic people of Iranic or Turkic descent, originally from Central Asia. The term 'Bulgar' comes from Turkic 'bulgha' means (to unite).Thracians were amongst the earliest inhabitants of the regions. Later, Bulgars and Slavic populations moved into the region and gradually mutually assimilated.
